The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University
of North Carolina at Charlotte looks for enthusiastic undergraduate
students to work on summer research projects. Several positions
will be available in all
research areas within the department. Each project will be supervised by our
Civil and Environmental Engineering faculty and conducted in modern laboratory facilities in the Cameron Research Center.
The following is a list of potential research topics:
- Mechanical properties of residual soil
- Ecological conservation and sustainable environment
- Detection of bridge cracks
- Enhancing oil production performance with CO2injection
- Persistence of endocrine disrupting chemicals in the environment
- Inorganic polymer concrete
- Carbon dioxide fixation by microalgae
- Water quality restoration and modeling
- Landfill methane mitigation, biodiesel feed stocks, urban air quality etc.
- Compounds of emerging concern in wastewater and surface water
- Ground waste gypsum wallboard as a soil amendment
- Sensors for preventing in-line sanitary sewer overflows
- GPS/GIS mapping of infrastructure systems
Projects will be a 5 weeks duration (May 26 – June 27, 2008) with a
weekly stipend of
$400 for five weeks plus $500 as a one-time allowance for housing
