Deep Foundations Committee

DEEP FOUNDATIONS FIRST “COMMITTEE OF THE YEAR” RECIPIENT

Deep Foundations Recognized as G-I 2003 Committee of the Year

The G-I Technical Coordination Council (TCC) is pleased to announce the selection of the Deep Foundations Committee as the first recipient of the Geo-Institute Technical Committee of the Year award.  The award will be presented to the committee that has done the most to contribute to the TCC mission of providing leadership on technical issues and advancing the state-of-art and state-of-practice of the geo-industry.

The Deep Foundations Committee, under the leadership of committee chair Mohamad Hussein of GRL, Inc., was recognized for their efforts in organizing the International Deep Foundations Congress in Orlando (February 2002), in developing short courses on Deep Foundations Design, Construction, and Quality Control, and in organizing sessions and reviewing papers for the recent Pan-American Conference (SARA 2003) and the upcoming Geo-Support (Orlando, 2004) and Geo-Trans (Los Angeles, 2004) conferences.  Committee members also represent the G-I’s interests on the Pile Foundations Committee of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering and with the International Building Code developers.  Other ongoing committee activities include preparation of a Geotechnical Special Publication honoring Professor George G. Goble, scheduled for release at next year’s Geo-Trans conference.

The Committee of the Year award provides a supplemental stipend to the committee’s baseline budget to help defray the cost of travel and accommodations for committee members attending committee functions.  Recognizing the vital role played by the technical committees in furthering the goals and objectives of the Geo-Institute, the Board of Governors has supported the TCC by funding this award.
