The Civil Engineering Department offers a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (B.S.C.E.) degree program and a Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.E.) degree program. Along with the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences, the Civil Engineering Department offers a doctoral degree program in Infrastructure and Environmental Systems.
Students may plan early in their undergraduate careers for continuation of their engineering studies beyond the first degree. The larger number of fields of graduate study that can logically follow the curriculum offered by the Department of Civil Engineering may influence how each students plans a program of study. Technical electives allow flexibility for emphasis in specific areas or breadth across several areas. Each student will design a program with his or her advisor's advice and approval in order to achieve an individual goal.
Optional courses (beyond the 120 hours required for the B.S.C.E.) may be taken from a prescribed list of courses in each area of Civil Engineering so that a certificate for an "Area of Undergraduate Concentration" can be obtained.
The program in Civil Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology
